Rainsford, the dream pop moniker of singer-songwriter Rainey Qualley, returns with “Butterfly,” a delicate single that showcases a quietly powerful new chapter for the Los Angeles-based artist. Co-written and produced by Michael Kamerman of Smallpools, the track is a shimmering, slow-burn meditation on the kind of love that both draws you in and burns you alive.
“Butterfly,” expected to appear on her long-awaited debut full-length album due later this year via Sparta Distribution, was built around gauzy synths and Rainsford’s breathy vocals. “This song is about a love like that,” Qualley explains, referencing the imagery of a moth to a flame.
“They circle the flame till their wings catch on fire.”
This release follows earlier 2025 singles “Horse” and “See Me Cry,” the latter featured in the indie film Off the Record, in which Qualley also stars. These songs collectively hint at a new sonic and personal evolution for Rainsford, who took time away from music to embrace motherhood. Now, she’s signaling a full return.
Though no official tour dates have been announced yet, the rollout of these new singles—and the cinematic storytelling behind them—suggests that a broader live campaign or album tour could be on the horizon.
