Deist Oelofse, better known as We Are All Fossils, has released “Ocean Blue.” His third single of the year, “Ocean Blue” follows the release of “Rapture” and “April Fools”. The UK-based indie-folk artist began his career on YouTube in 2014, and has since become known for his heartfelt lyricism and the magnetic, introspective feel of his songs. Oelofse has not released a full project since his 2020 EP, Monologue Station. Fans are hopeful that this stream of new music may indicate a new album soon.

“Ocean Blue,” is an emotional song with a bit more of a contemporary sound than some of Oelofse’s previous work. Pieces of his classic indie folk style still appear on the track, with what sounds like a banjo woven into the expansive acoustic guitars. It tells a story of the breathtaking nature of the ocean, and the deep ache of losing someone before you’re ready. He opens with, “I watched the water rise / and take you into the ocean blue / It matched your eyes / then a tear came to mine when I realized I was losing you.” Its satisfying crescendo and retreat at the bridge calls to mind the ebb and flow of ocean waves. We Are All Fossils is a promising voice in the indie-folk scene, and we’ll be tuned in to see what he does next.

“Ocean Blue” is available to stream wherever you listen to music.
