Alt rock duo The Haunt has recently released their latest single “Own Me” featuring rapper Mod Sun off their upcoming debut album New Addiction, set to release July 25th.

“Own Me” is a melancholic track that brings forward a darker side to the band. With sludgy guitars and thundering drums, The Haunt slows down the pace and brings to life the difficult emotions that come with experiencing depression. The heavy sound both intertwines and highlights the piercing vocals in a way that feels sophisticated, yet deeply emotional. Mod Sun’s performance contributes to the sensations of despair the lyrics describe, blending in perfectly with frontwoman Anastasia Haunt’s harrowing delivery.

There is a feeling of deep pain that runs through the song, a push and pull between feeling the emotions but not allowing them to reflect onto others. Anastasia elaborates further on the significance of the track:

“With depression, it always feels like if you let yourself get close to someone, sooner or later, they’ll be overwhelmed by you. For me, my anxiety and mental illness have always been something that controlled my life and have kept me scared from really living… I’ve always felt out of place, too shy and quiet and always right on the verge of freaking out”.
