St. Vincent took center stage at a sold out Wang Theater in Boston on a chilly October night, nights after another sold out show at Radio City Music Hall in New York City. Touring for her critically acclaimed new album Daddy’s Home, released earlier this year, Annie Clark has crafted a live show designed to take over the world by storm. After the many different cycles of St. Vincent, it has all come full circle in the grimy 70s funk of Daddy’s Home and she’s better than ever in this new era.
St. Vincent has been on tour for a bit on this cycle (we previously caught her headlining Pitchfork Music Festival) and after this date, only a few more remain on the east coast before she brings the tour around for a second trip in 2022. Every tour she has had to this point has been visually and sonically fantastic — she definitely knows how to put on a great show that is vastly different and unique than anyone else. Boston’s show opened up with comedian Ali Macofsky who got the crowd laughing and having a grand old time before it was time for St. Vincent to grace the stage. After a brief intermission, Clark opened the show with a jazzy, Daddy’s Home-sounding take on “Digital Witness” to the crowd’s delight. The energy in the venue was simply insane — everyone in the theatre was up and dancing, thrilled to return to live music. The set largely consisted of tracks from Daddy’s Home would marking the first time the Boston crowd would hear them live. After a set that touched on the entirety of her discography, the encore of the show featured the Pink Floyd-esque opus “Live in The Dream”, followed by “The Melting of The Sun”; this marked a great way to close out an already riveting evening.
