Sophie Sutton showcases heartbreak in “Nurse”

Date:

Sophie Sutton "Nurse"

Mix the satirical jazz sounds of Lily Allen with the musical elements of Scary Pockets, and you’ve got Sophie Sutton. This Berlin-based artist has recently started veering down the pathway of alternative rock. She’s already made quite the name for herself; Sophie’s collaborated and opened up for Vulfpeck’s Theo Katzman at his 2018 sold-out show in Berlin. Furthermore, she’s also received praise from BBC and Danish audio company Libratone. This year, she’s taking a whole new approach to her musicality, aiming to embrace maturity and bittersweetness.

Sophie’s latest single “Nurse” encompasses heartbreak at it’s purest form. Within the lyrics tell the story of her mixed emotions, highlighting the ups and downs of love. The track has elements of jazz, yet builds itself into a more rock-centered ballad. This song has addicting textures to it- my favorite being Sophie’s sparkly background vocals that accompany her hauntingly funky chorus melody. All of these layers with the added grit of the electric guitar make this track extra crisp and satisfying to listen to. “Nurse” is the lead single on Sophie’s upcoming EP, ‘My Worst & Best,’ which is set to be released later this year. It’s the perfect strong start to her newest body of work.
