Slow Joy releases “Wound,” the second single off his upcoming album

Date:

Slow Joy is continuing his debut album rollout of A JOY SO SLOW AT TIMES I DON’T THINK ITS COMING with the second promotional single “Wound.” Continuing with a loosely constructed narrative from the last single/music video release, “Wound” has the mask taken off of the previously abducted Slow Joy, to let loose for a loud studio set.

“Wound” continues with Slow Joy’s signature emo-inflected alt-rock sound. The production is fuller and heavier than the first single which works in the track’s favor. A combination of driving guitars works in tandem around a catchy looped riff, allowing lead singer Esteban Flores to let the emotions loose in the cacophonous chorus.

Lyrically, the track is also very in line with what Slow Joy has brought to the table. Thematically, the album is coming together quite cohesively, if not a little predictably. “Wound” examines a past relationship and the pain of losing someone coming from the slightly isolating perspective that the narrator is the only one that’s in pain. The chorus hits, “It kills me / That everyone around can go on living / Like I’m the only one that’s bleeding.” Not the most healthy lament, but a universal heartache experience nonetheless, expressed by Flores’ pining vocals.

A JOY SO SLOW AT TIMES I DON’T THINK ITS COMING is out May 16th. Stream “Wound” and watch the music video below.
