Maudlin Strangers kick off 2026 with “Spaghetti Western”

Date:

Maudlin Strangers are back with their first release of the year, “Spaghetti Western.”

The new song is a glossy, slightly gritty track that melodically blends alternative rock with a darker edge. “Spaghetti Western” incorporates the telltale whistling that you find in Western scores as well as the spirit of an outlaw. The synths are atmospheric, the vocals are broody, and the lyrics are laced with yearning for acceptance as frontman Jake Hays sings, “But will you take me as I am, my dear? / Take me as I am, my dear”

“Spaghetti Western” was recored in the 111-year-old Laurel Canyon house, turning its noise into atmosphere. The track sharpens the impulse into something lean and sneering as it was born from a BlipBox, a baby synth loop that Hays treated like a dare. As a result, it possess a swagger with a bruise under it with a inevitable bassline and a Western wink that winds its way through the entire track.
