Ian Abel’s new track “Not Our Song” is the breakup anthem you’ll love to play one last time

Date:

Start the year off with a bang – and maybe kick a toxic ex to the curb – because Ian Abel is back with his cheekiest track yet, “Not Our Song.”

This high-energy, double-entendre-laden bop blends a playful drum-and-bass groove with nostalgic 90s synth vibes (think Bruce Hornsby meets a neon electro-pop fever dream). Ian’s velvety vocals float effortlessly over this musical confection, making it the perfect anthem for anyone ready to say “we’re never, ever getting back together”, but with a funky twist.

Ian Abel is the queer electro-pop artist you didn’t know you needed. With his signature mix of velvety vocals and lush, psychedelic production, Ian’s music feels like a dreamy blend of Sam Smith meeting Robyn, or Jessie Ware crossing paths with James Blake.

Talking about “Not Our Song,” Abel shares:

“I wanted to capture how a tired relationship can feel like a song stuck in your head and sometimes the best way to get it out is to play that song one last time.

Not Our Song is a perfect breakup song: cathartic, fun, and just chaotic enough. “We’re so played out / Hit it one more time, baby that’s my way out” sums up the liberating feeling of turning heartbreak into a fresh beginning.
