Estella Dawn shares powerful breakup ballad “Conversations”

Date:

New Zealand-born Estella Dawn has released a new single titled “Conversations,” a powerful stripped-back ballad about rediscovering your self-worth following a breakup.

The piano-driven track unfolds like a poem instead of following a traditional pop song structure. With her signature soulful vocals, Dawn sings about reaching a breaking point in a relationship after failing to have her love and devotion reciprocated time after time.

In the verses, the singer-songwriter shares her discontent with unfulfilled promises, singing, “Words speak loud but I need more than that / I got patience but I won’t be second best / I want respect, is that too much to ask / It’s a conversation we shouldn’t need to have.”

About the inspiration behind the song, Dawn says:

“It’s about the frustration of having to ask for respect, affection, and commitment. They give you just enough to feel like they might be capable of more, but their actions don’t line up. Writing it was my way of holding a mirror up to that dynamic and admitting I couldn’t keep settling for half-measures.”

Now based in San Diego, Dawn has been steadily creating her own lane as an independent artist, consistently releasing genre-blurring music that highlights her strengths as a vocalist, producer, and songwriter. Since debuting in 2018, her catalog has amassed over 7 million streams.
