Braden Bales fights back with “YOU LIED” after being painted as a villain in a breakup

Date:

Braden Bales gives a sneak peek into his upcoming EP, 5 STAGES OF GRIEF, with a heartbreaking ballad about fractured trust. “YOU LIED” explores the aftermath of a relationship when one partner tries to make the other out to be something that they are not.

Anyone who has ever been painted as the villain in a messy breakup where lingering feelings are deliberately misconstrued can relate to the lyrics in this song, especially the second verse: “I’m not trying to make you into something you’re not / Wish we had that in common / There’s different ways of coping with loss / At least my way is honest / So trample over me with your friends / Just be careful who the shoe fits / You run away from the fire you lit / But I haven’t forgotten.” He elaborates more on the song:

“I wrote YOU LIED when I heard my ex’s music that painted our relationship in a bad light. We had a really bittersweet ending and it broke me to hear her talk negatively about everything we had and what being with me was like. YOU LIED represents the depression stage of grief in my breakup and it’s written about the most painful part of this process.”

Bales has had a big year — embarking on his very first headlining tour and now joining Livingston on the North American leg of The Story Continues Tour which kicked off last week.
