We’re just a few weeks away from the highly anticipated debut album by The Kid LAROI, titled The First Time. Last week, we were treated to a fresh glimpse of the album with the song “Too Much,” which features a collaboration with Jung Kook and Central Cee and today at midnight LAROI released a brand-new single, “What Just Happened,” a fan-favorite that he has been performing on tour.
The song’s music video features LAROI and a group of his friends in a woodland setting, embarking on a unique journey. Distorted images and hallucinations provide LAROI with a newfound sense of clarity. He’s distressed after an argument with his girlfriend that occurred while he was under the influence. The song delves into his self-reflection and shortcomings, all set against a backdrop of pop-rock-inspired music.
He sings in one of the verses, “Lost in a dark place / And I called when I was wasted, and what did I say to you? / Uh, all I remember was how the liquor tasted / Then I woke up in my bed tryna retrace it,” showcasing his evolved lyrical and vocal abilities.
