Nick Vyner tackles loss and loneliness on “Flood”

Date:

In March, alt-pop artist Nick Vyner released “Foundation,” the first of many singles that we can expect from him this year.  The radiant track was a follow-up to his 2020 breakout hit “Mood Swing,” which went absolutely viral on TikTok and is nearing 2 million streams on Spotify.  When we talked to Nick last month, he shared that he would be dropping more singles that would expand his sound, including a new song that would arrive “in early May.”  Keeping his promise, Nick gives us “Flood.”

A powerful mix of emotions and sounds, “Flood” is an intricate look at navigating outward surroundings and inward feelings.  With dramatic stop-and-go music that builds up to spacious choruses, the track gives us an edgier vibe from Nick that we have not yet experienced.  Over the dynamic production, Nick sings, “Hold up / Already know that I’m leaving alone tonight” and “Where did you go? / Think I lost you in the flood,” addressing the loneliness and loss that he is facing.

In the accompanying music video, we watch as Nick fluctuates between real life and fantasy.  We see him in casual surroundings, such as in a field or a swimming pool, being totally normal.  Pretty soon, however, we watch as he shares some supernatural abilities, sporting glowing red eyes and a daunting aura.  What exactly could be going on?  You can find out below.

You can listen to “Flood” on platforms like Apple Music and Spotify.
