jupiter flynn and Nina Caroline address the reality of toxic relationships in their single “Blind”

Date:

With a relatable story that needed to be told, jupiter flynn, a young singer-songwriter from Amsterdam—alongside singer-songwriter Nina Caroline—confronts the blindness of being in a toxic relationship in the new single, “Blind.”

jupiter flynn’s love for music and storytelling began at the age of six, when she started composing short songs on the piano. Since then, she has continued to create fragile, yet powerful, indie-pop compositions, allowing her intimate songwriting talent and raw, rich vocals to shine through on every project. Collaborating with Nina Caroline—who, according to her instagram bio, “makes music for emotionally unstable folks”—proved to be the perfect choice, treating listeners to an exceptionally compatible vocal and songwriting style.

This song dives straight into addressing the toxic behaviors of an ex with the opening lyrics: “I’ve got something in my throat / Why won’t you let me speak” accompanied by the simplistic strumming of an acoustic guitar. However, “Blind” isn’t solely about the ex’s behaviors; the two songwriters dig deeper, peeling back layers to reveal their personal realization of manipulation and constriction. The chorus, “You cut me open / And you took your damn time / I swear you were hoping / I never realize / You were making me / Blind, blind”—sung by both jupiter flynn and Nina Caroline—perfectly encapsulates their frustration with the situation and their regret of not recognizing this behavior sooner.

As the song progresses, the energy builds, introducing powerful background vocals and fuller instrumentation before concluding with the lyrics “I’m fighting the feeling.” It’s almost as if they grow into the song and their emotions, giving this story a clear beginning, middle and end.
