Gobe blends indie pop and emo hip-hop on newest track “for once in my life”

Date:

South Florida artist Gobe (pronounced Go-Bee) has always blended the personal with the poetic, and his latest single “for once in my life” is no exception. Premiered via Rival Magazine on July 17 and officially released with a video on July 25, the track feels like clarity after confusion.

With a genre-bending style that floats between indie pop, emo hip-hop, and cloud-hop, Gobe draws from the duality of his upbringing of sun-drenched days in Pompano Beach and the gritty pulse of Florida’s underground rap scene.

“It’s that moment where everything around you still feels chaotic, but somehow, you find peace in a connection that feels real,” Gobe says. “It’s inspired by the kind of love that helps you heal, even if you didn’t think you needed it.”

A natural storyteller, Gobe taps into his experiences with love, loss, and identity to create music that resonates. “for once in my life” follows a string of singles, including “under my skin” and the “sun leaves scars,” in which he compares love to sunlight (warm at first, but painful once it’s gone).

Raised in a musical household where classic rock filled the air during surf trips with his dad, Gobe’s early life was steeped in both sound and self-expression. By high school, he was experimenting with production and tattooing his friends. His breakout moment came with 2022’s “Dripping Love,” which garnered thousands of plays organically, affirming that he was onto something authentic.

Since then, Gobe has amassed over 2.4 million streams across platforms and cultivated a loyal following drawn to his heartfelt lyrics and genre-fluid style. He’s also collaborated with South Florida peer Poorstacy and continues to be a voice for a growing scene where “the street meets the sand.”

“My hope is to make people feel better when they listen to my music,” he says. “To feel like they’re not alone. Maybe even smile when they’re driving with the windows down and my song comes on. I hope that’s their favorite part of the day.”
