Fright Years return with new single “Wait For Nothing”

Date:

Edinburgh’s Fright Years’ new single “Wait for Nothing” is a coming-of-age indie masterpiece. It’s another track of theirs that carries as much emotional depth as it does cinematic power, giving them a reputation as one of the UK’s most exciting indie newcomers.

Jules Kelly’s vocals are the centrepiece. Her delivery is powerful and gives the song its emotional push. The track’s instrumental layers use guitar-driven soundscapes, blending soft with fierce, along with the bass and drums adding depth.

“Wait for Nothing” marks the band’s return after their debut EP Still Life. Recorded with Ben Matravers, renowned for his work with Hard Life, the single ventures deeper into the emotional territory that fans have come to expect.

Since their first releases, Fright Years have been named “a band to keep an eye on” and “names you’ll want to remember,” with airplay on BBC Radio 1, BBC Introducing Scotland, and coverage from major outlets. The new single arrives after an important year for the band, with three sold-out shows in Edinburgh and Glasgow, support slots with Twin Atlantic, and a set at TRNSMT Festival, where they drew crowds to the BBC Introducing stage.

“’Wait for Nothing’ is about finding comfort in mortality,” says frontwoman Kelly.

“It’s a realisation that life is short, and a call to devote yourself to your passions despite fear. Writing the lyrics felt like a personal pep talk: focus on what matters, make the changes you need, and pour your energy into the things you love.”
