So far, UK country-pop group First Time Flyers hasn’t experienced any turbulence on their debut album release journey. Earlier this year, their single “Stay” was playlisted on BBC Radio 2, making it their third playlisted song on the station in a row. Its release coincided with the opening of the Country to Country (C2C) Festival, putting them in a prime position for their set on the Indigo stage that weekend. Last week, they released “Primadonna,” which also coincided with their performance at the Long Road Festival. Fans of First Time Flyers have been eagerly awaiting the release of the single, as live performances of the song have been a highlight at each show. It all builds on the hype of their debut album, Bound to Break, which is due out September 12, along with their headline tour around the UK, which starts September 17.
Written about someone they met in the music industry, “Primadonna” is a playful send-off to anyone who’s just been doing too much—in the wrong way. It contains a contagious pop energy, a bit of country attitude, and one rocking guitar solo, making it one exciting track. All the while, we hear lines like, “Hate the games that you’re playing / Excuses you’re making again and again and again,” and “You drive around in your fast car / Thinking you’re better than everyone else.” But, First Time Flyers will not be messed with so easily. They explain, “If you’re gonna waste my time / Gonna make me wait all night / Well, you can say what you wanna / Primadonna, don’t kill my vibe.”
About the release, each band member gives us a few words.
Poppy Fardell explains,
“It seemed like the obvious choice as the single we release before out debut album, ‘Bound to Break,’ comes out in September.”
As far as the inspiration behind the song, Vicki Manser shares,
“We’ve been asked many times to say who the song is about. Maybe we will if our album goes top 10.”
Meanwhile, Tim Prottey-Jones says,
“I think we enjoy playing the song as much as the fans enjoy hearing it.”
And Jake Morrell reveals,
“I know you shouldn’t have a favorite child, but we do quite like this one!”
