Charlotte Cardin releases the upbeat “Jim Carrey”

Date:

JUNO-winning songwriter Charlotte Cardin announced her sophomore album 99 Nights (out August 25) last month to a swell of critical acclaim, and today the pop songwriter has released “Jim Carrey”, which by my estimate is the best single from the new project. Of the track, Cardin shares the following:

“It’s a special one. I went into this rabbit hole of Jim Carrey interviews. He discusses ego in an interesting way. In his perspective, our need for acceptance holds us back from embracing who we really are. The track explores getting rid of your ego. You can decide what your destiny is if you take a risk and accept to be who you really are at the fullest. It’s a metaphor, but marrying Jim Carrey is a good way to start the inner work.”

“Jim Carrey” puts its foot on the gas pedal and doesn’t let up, with a shuffling beat and twinkling keys placing Cardin’s glowing voice front and center as she races to the end of the three-minute track. The chorus is imminently repeatable — “Goodbye my worthless ego / Without you I’m finally free, oh” — and it’s rattled in my head for days since I received the press release. Watch the visualizer for the track below, and preorder 99 Nights here.
