Buddy Wynkoop carve out a unique niche with “Zugzwang”

Date:

Buddy Wynkoop is a four-piece art punk ensemble hailing from the vibrant underground scene of Portland, OR. With a fusion of spoken word existentialism, shout-sung melodies, unconventional song structures, and a vintage rock ‘n’ roll vibe, they carve out a unique niche with their newest track “Zugzwang,” taken from their upcoming album Better Than Botox.

The title, derived from chess terminology, encapsulates the feeling of being trapped in a situation where any move leads to further complications. From the opening chords, “Zugzwang” grabs your attention with its raw energy and the spoken-word delivery intertwines seamlessly with the driving instrumentation.

As the song progresses, it builds to a crescendo of realization—a rallying cry for embracing the absurdity of existence and finding meaning in the midst of chaos. Buddy Wynkoop channels their frustration into a rhythmic and syllabic manifesto. As Buddy Wynkoop prepares to unleash their debut album upon the world, “Zugzwang” is a glimpse of what is to come.
