After nearly two years without a new single, Blake Rose has returned with a bang on his latest single, “That’s My Gurl!”

Released on Friday, Feb. 13, the upbeat pop track showcases the Australian singer’s raw and new energetic chapter as an artist.

Known for primarily blending indie pop, alternative pop and folk-rock elements, Rose is departing from his melancholic sounds — heard in tracks like “Gone” and “Ordinary People” — and shifting toward more vibrant, energetic music. It’s loud, bright and more confrontational this time around.

Rose’s “That’s My Gurl” is all about intense attachment and possessive devotion in a romantic relationship. He sings, “She’s mine,” “Nobody else” and warnings like “don’t touch,” showcasing strong territorial feelings. It often blurs the lines between affection and obsession.

The song leans into an all-consuming energy in this near-indie-alt Dominic Fike-like track. Rose’s emotional vulnerability — which he often uses as a shield — shines here. He doesn’t shy away from overwhelming or passionate love, and the trippy, high-energy production signals a major shift in his evolution as an artist.
