Annabel Gutherz gets lost in a reverie on “Summer’s Here”

Date:

Over the years, Annabel Gutherz has made a reputation for herself as a singer-songwriter with a story to tell. Whether she is describing the pressures of performing or reflecting on an ex, she can take a private thought or a personal moment and expand it to all it can be. Her fans are able to hear themselves in the lyrics, tapping into the specific details that Annabel shares. In the end, the stories that she tells are stories that everyone has, no matter how peculiar they seem.

On “Summer’s Here,” Annabel touches on the kinds of stories that lend themselves to perfect summer memories. The track was recorded in a single live take, capturing the purity of the moment—a purity that is often found in summertime happenings. Over a relaxed indie pop groove, Annabel is “tangled in memories.” She sings, “And the breeze is through the roof / And your hands are in my hair / We’re miles from the blue,” surrendering to the bliss. Still, there is a bit of sadness throughout, made clear when she sings, “Summers weren’t made to last.” It leads to hear screaming, “I love you!” in the bridge, as she refuses to let go.

Telling us more about the single, Annabel shares,

“It’s a little sonic postcard, if you will. A keepsake for summer love and freckles, for salt-kissed skin and windblown days on the beach—for the tender, aching sweetness of experiences that linger well beyond the moment!

“I wrote this song in the sun-dappled days of June. It started with a simple melody and a looping chord progression—unassuming but full of potential. I brought those chords into rehearsal and asked the band to play whatever the moment made them feel, without having heard the topline.”
