Tate McRae discusses creative process, gratitude and tour

Following her release of “It’s ok I’m ok,” recent end of the U.S. Leg of her Think Later World Tour and recent performance at Audacy’s We Can Survive event, Tate McRae opened up about her creative process, gratitude and upcoming tour in a recent Audacy Check-In with Bru.

Currently immersed in shaping the world of her next project, Tate shared that she loves the process of creating music videos, calling it one of her favorite parts and emphasized the importance of having the right team around her, especially in the studio, where she feels vulnerable. “It’s a really vulnerable process… the people around you affect your product the most,” Tate noted, highlighting the importance of trust and comfort when working on new material.

Interestingly, Tate also compared her approach to making music to that of an athlete, revealing that she finds inspiration in athletes like LeBron James. Raised in a competitive household, she explained that she treats her work like a job, complete with routines and discipline, which she says fuels her creativity.

On a personal note, Tate shared how she deals with the pressures of being a pop star. When in need of a mental health break, she finds comfort in simple activities like stepping outside, sitting in the grass and grounding herself in gratitude.

“I think the number one thing always is just like finding gratitude in every situation,” she reflected, reminding herself to appreciate the blessings in her life. “Sometimes you forget that like [my] life is very blessed and I think whenever I get into a spot where I get stuck, I always need to be like, ‘okay, you need to step out of your head and realize that you’re really lucky to be in the position that you’re in’ and I think that it always puts things into perspective for me.”

Wrapping up, Tate expressed excitement about heading to Asia for the next leg of her tour, especially looking forward to her first visit to Tokyo. “I have been dying to go to Tokyo for so many years,” McRae mentioned of the bucket list first stop she’ll make, before heading to Singapore, Bangkok, and Manila. “I’m so excited to just look around and see the culture and just be there.”
